Hours before former president Joe Biden gave his first public speech since leaving office, the White House mocked his schedule and said it was way past his bedtime. White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt said her first reaction to Biden's schedule was shock that "he is speaking at nighttime". "I have thought his bedtime was much earlier..I understand that the topic of his speech is social security. Let me make it very clear ahead of former president Biden's remarks. President Trump is absolutely certain about protecting Social Security benefits for law-abiding, tax-paying American citizens. He will always protect that program," Karoline Leavitt said.
Biden's first public speech: Time, place, context
Joe Biden is set to address a convention in Chicago at 4.45 pm. He will address the conference of the Advocates, Counselors and Representatives for the Disabled (ACRD) at a Chicago hotel, with the gathering focused on ways to protect Social Security in the modern political age.
“We are deeply honored President Biden is making his first public appearance at ACRD’s sold-out conference,” said Rachel Buck, ACRD Executive Director, in a statement. “As bipartisan leaders have long agreed, Americans who retire after paying into Social Security their whole lives deserve the vital support and caring services they receive. As a result, we are thrilled the President will be joining us to discuss how we can work together for a stable and successful future for Social Security.”
This is not Biden's first speech after the election but the first public one. Biden has stayed away from the limelight after leaving teh White House, though reports claimed that he and former First Lady Jill Biden have been trying to become politically relevant as they have been reaching out to Dem leadership.
Democratic House leader Hakeem Jeffried said this is an "all hands on deck" moment, which is why Biden's voice is so important.
Biden is going to speak about one of the grey areas of the Trump administration. Americans are scared that Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency may touch the social security payments as Musk called it "ponzi scam" but the administration assured that social security will never be touched.
