NEW DELHI: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Sambit Patra on Thursday said that National Herald case should be called a "robbery" and not "theft or corruption." Launching a scathing attack on Sonia and Rahul Gandhi , Patra said that they are "modern dacoits" and the case is a "blatant robbery."
"Can a political company lend money to another entity? How did the Congress party, which relies on donations, lend money to Young Indian and AJL (Associated Journals Limited) like a bank? I appeal to you that from today, don't call this case a theft or corruption, this is blatant robbery. Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi are modern dacoits. This is the National Herald robbery case," Patra said while addressing a press conference in Bhubaneswar.
Patra's attack on Congress came after Enforcement Directorate (ED) filed a chargesheet against Sonia, Rahu, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey and others, including several firms in connection with the National Herald money laundering case .
According to the probing agency, the matter is scheduled to be argued in the Delhi Rouse Avenue Court on April 25.
The ED has filed the complaint under Sections 44 and 45 of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), while the predicate offence, originally filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, includes charges such as criminal breach of trust and cheating under the Indian Penal Code.
