Gender's not a limiting factor

Send Push
As women in the field of STEM, we often face distinctive challenges. When confronted with obstacles, I have consistently chosen to approach them not through the lens of my gender but as a dedicated student and an engineer. From an early stage in my academic journey, I learned to dismiss gender as a limiting factor. While establishing Amagi and introducing geo-targeted advertising in India, I faced gender biases at cable head ends in India. Initially underestimated, I demonstrated my competence by independently commissioning our system, and challenging stereotypes.

Huge family support

Coming from a middle-class family with teacher-parents, I was always encouraged to pursue my passion. Family support is crucial for STEM students. It was in 1992 that I recognised my love for computer science and programming. However, in college, my late hours in the lab conflicted with my hostel restrictions. So, my father, who decided that my passion should not be hampered, shifted our family to Coimbatore, so that I could continue my studies as a day scholar.
