Elon Musk , CEO of SpaceX, has already revealed his ambitious timeline for Mars missions, targeting a Starship launch as soon as next year. In his latest post, the owner of X has also shared his suggestion for the name of the first city on the Red Planet.
“Elon Musk says the first city on Mars will be named ‘Terminus’,” a post said on X.
Replying to the post, Musk not only confirmed the name but also provided information on why he chose it, saying that it will ultimately depend on the residents of Mars to name their city.
“It’s from Asimov’s Foundation. But I’m open to other ideas,” Musk said.
“Ultimately, it will be up to the people of Mars to decide,” he added.

Elon Musk announced that Starship is slated to depart for Mars at the end of next year, carrying Tesla's humanoid robot, Optimus. These initial uncrewed missions are crucial test flights preceding any human journeys.

This announcement coincided with SpaceX's 23rd anniversary on March 14. Musk acknowledged the milestone on X, expressing the company's continued commitment to pushing boundaries and making life multi-planetary.
However, SpaceX's Mars ambitions face significant challenges, highlighted by the second Starship test failure on March 6th. The vehicle exploded during its eighth test flight, underscoring the technical hurdles in Musk's timeline for Mars exploration.
