In a candid moment that offered rare insight into one of the most talked-about breakups of the decade, Joe Alwyn broke his silence about his split from Taylor Swift—almost two years after the couple quietly ended their six-year relationship in early 2023.

Joe Alwyn finally shuts the door on Taylor Swift and wants the world to move on too
Speaking to The Guardian, the Brutalist and Kinds of Kindness actor, Joe Alwyn shared his thoughts on moving forward and how he’s kept himself grounded amid relentless public interest. Though Swift has long since stepped into her whirlwind romance with NFL star Travis Kelce, Alwyn still finds himself in the shadow of his high-profile past. When asked about whether he was finally ready to close the door on his chapter with the pop superstar, he didn’t mince words.

“That’s something for other people to do,” he said bluntly. “We’re talking about something that’s a while ago now in my life… So that’s for other people. That’s what I feel.”

The actor’s frustration with ongoing fascination around his previous relationship was evident, and he made it clear that he’s emotionally detached from the narrative others still cling to.

Joe Alwyn shares how he coped with the public’s obsession
Alwyn opened up about how he managed the noise that came with dating one of the most famous women in the world. When asked if Swift’s spotlight ever made him worry about being overshadowed in his own career, he admitted to focusing only on what he could control.

“Right from the beginning, tried to focus on the things that are meaningful for me: friends, family, work, of course,” Alwyn explained. “If you let all of that other stuff in… and it starts to affect you and your behavior, you’re living from the outside in. And then you’re pretty f*cked.”

He credited his tight-knit support system—his “great family and friends and real things”—for helping him stay grounded during that time. And now, as he enters a new chapter, Alwyn feels ready to fully move on.

“I don’t know how else to say it, it’s just in a different room,” he said, echoing a sentiment of emotional closure. The actor added that he’s feeling “optimistic” and “lucky to be in a good place” as 2025 begins. It’s a rare, honest look at the emotional aftermath of a very public love story—one that, for Alwyn, is now firmly in the past.
