I tried the B&M hair styler, which is £455 cheaper than a popular brand, and I'm completely sold. The £24.99 hair styler in B&M's Christmas gift range comes with five different attachments and promises to make hair bouncy and curly by wrapping the hair around the barrel using high-speed airflow, rather than extreme heat.
I hate styling my hair, but the Elle 5-in-1 Styling Set actually made it feel easier, and I have styled my hair more times in the last few months than I have for the past few years. Some attachments seem redundant to me or could be improved, but I was unbelievably impressed with the styler as a whole.
The blow-drying attachment clicks onto the top of the device easily, and although it could be slightly stronger, it doesn't burn my hair or feel too aggressive. As a result, my hair looks smoother when it is dry compared to using my traditional hair dryer.
The volumising brush is also great. The only time I used to have a successful blow-dry was twice a year when I visited the hairdresser's, but this styler means you don't have to master the impossible skill of coordinating the brush and the dryer.
Instead, the hot air blows straight through the brush, so you can hook it under bangs around your face to create volume and curl.
The standout of the show, however, is the curling barrel. The pack contains two attachments: one for the left and one for the right ,which pull through the air in opposite directions so your hair looks more blended.
In my set, only one of these curling barrels works. As soon as I lift one attachment to my head, the hair wraps around immediately, but with the other barrel, it never catches. Perhaps I'm using it incorrectly as a self-confessed amateur, but it's a failure for me.
However, the one that does work makes my hair look volumised and smooth. When you compare it to traditional curling irons or curling your hair with straighteners, which require spending hours with your arm tilted at an awkward angle until all feeling is gone, this is significantly easier.
Your arm just stays in the upright position, and you let the styler do all the work. Plus, because I only leave the small sections of hair wrapped around the styler for about 10 seconds, the entire process is much quicker.
It also comes with a handy travel case, but the item I've never used is the smoothing attachment, because, to be quite honest, I'm not sure what it does.
The styler definitely has points that could be improved, but it is also £455 cheaper than a popular Dyson Airwrap, which comes with six attachments.
The multi-styler and dryer Dyson Airwrap i.d.™ multi-styler and dryer - Straight+Wavy (Amber silk) is currently retailing for £479.99 on the Dyson website.
Granted, the styler is nowhere near the level of technology as Dyson, which comes with Bluetooth wireless technology that connects to an app, so you can create your own hair profile and style sequence.
However, at this price point, I could not ask for much more. B&M says it is "perfect as a gift for a teenage daughter or niece this Christmas", but I fully recommend it for adults too.
