Weather maps show UK to bask in 96-hour 'mini heatwave' with 23C - full list of cities hit

The is set for a mini-heatwave at the end of April and start of May as temperatures are expected to exceed 20C. The latest maps from WX Charts show the mercury soaring with a number of major cities braced for warm .

The maps turn yellow, which indicates an increase in temperatures, from Monday, April 28. The temperatures will approach 20C in Bristol, , Birmingham and Manchester at 6pm. The mercury will then hit 20C in Cambridge at the same time on the following day

The maps then show temperatures reaching 22C in Bristol, Birmingham and Oxford at 6pm on Wednesday, April 30. It will then get even warmer the following day (Thursday, May 1) with high temperatures of 23C on the Norfolk Coast.

The mercury will then drop slightly on Friday, May 2, but temperatures could still approach 20C in some areas. According to WX Charts, London, Bristol, Birmingham and Cambridge will see highs of 19C.

The 's definition of a heatwave requires three or more days of unusually hot weather.

However, the WX Charts rain maps also show potential downpours across the UK during the four-day period. Heavy rainfall is expected in parts of northern England and Scotland at midday on Wednesday, April 30.

In its long-range UK forecast, which spans from April 25 until Sunday, May 4, the Met Office says that temperatures will be "slightly above normal". The forecaster says the nation will be "high pressure dominated" with "large amounts of fine weather".

Rather cloudy with rain continuing eastwards, sometimes heavy and thundery over England in the afternoon. Sunny spells and showers follow into western regions. Temperatures mostly around the seasonal norm.

Outlook for Tuesday to Thursday:

Monday's rain eventually clearing the northeast on Tuesday before further wet weather crosses western and southern regions overnight into Wednesday. Drier more widely on Thursday with bright or sunny spells.
