Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk shows true feelings about Diogo Jota tribute being ruined

Liverpool and Palace paid tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva, who tragically lost their lives in a car accident last month, before the Community Shield commenced.

However, the minute's silence was abruptly interrupted by a small group of Palace fans causing a commotion, leading to attempts from both their fellow supporters and the Liverpool crowd to quieten them.

Reds captain Virgil van Dijk expressed his disappointment, stating: "I'm disappointed. There was plenty trying to sushhh it down, but obviously that doesn't help them. It is what it is. "I don't think this was planned or it was the idea of the fan that made some noise. Maybe he wasn't aware that it was a minute of silence. He was just still happy and tried to cheer for his team. Meanwhile, Arne Slot has issued a stern warning to Liverpool, insisting they must improve their defensive game if they hope to reclaim the Premier League title this season. The Reds suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace, despite leading twice in the match, as Slot's reigning champions struggled in the season opener.

He added: "There is not a lot to replace him [Ekitike] with, so if he gets an injury there would not be much to replace him with for Bournemouth, Newcastle and Arsenal so that's why I took him off but he had a good game, that's for sure."
