food restaurant chain Neat Burger, owned by and Leonardo DiCaprio, have reportedly closed all of their UK outlets after six years of business. Set up by Hamilton and DiCaprio in 2019 among a host of other celebrities, the eatery's closure could prompt around 150 job losses.
claim that in 2023, the company posted substantial financial losses and half of their branches in London would close. That is in addition to their New York establishment, which was shut down last summer. At the time, a company spokesman said: "We are concentrating our efforts on our best performing restaurants - we believe that sometimes taking a step back is necessary to make a bigger leap forward."
But by 2025 only two restaurants remained open in the UK, both of which have now closed.
A spokesperson confirmed: "We have no further comment at this time, other than to confirm that the business has taken the difficult decision to close its UK restaurants."
Losses had racked up to £7.9million, up from £3.2m the previous year in 2021. The brand launched just two years prior, promising "to create sustainable delicious dishes."
At the time of their creation, Hamilton said: "I'm very passionate about being kinder to our world and also really respect Neat Burger's commitment to more ethical practices and supporting small businesses, so this is something I'm also really proud to support.
"As someone who follows a plant-based diet, I believe we need a healthier high street option that tastes amazing but also offers something exciting to those who want to be meat-free every now and again."
Hamilton and argued that eating meat is not only cruel to animals, but also contributes to global warming.
"I feel incredibly clean and healthy," he told CNN at the time. "There are things I see my friends eating, and I used to eat it, but now I feel sick because I have to read about it and have read some of the science."
The seven-time F1 world champion is a vocal advocate for veganism, while also revealing that his dogs Roscoe and Coco eat an only-vegan diet.
Hamilton was a producer on the 2018 documentary 'The Game Changers'. The James Cameron-directed film, explored the theory that athletes need meat for protein, as it followed leading figures such as Hamilton and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
The Brit was first influenced by a documentary, 'What The Health' which exposes the ethical concerns within the meat and dairy industries, prompting him to go vegan completely and passionately support the cause.
