Question Time star, Fiona Bruce, 60, is used to eking out answers from MPs and political commentators, but there is one thing even she won't discuss - and it isn't money.
Working for the BBC means Fiona's salary has been available for review since 2017, when the company was compelled to do so by parliament. Listed for Question Time and news bulletins, but not the Antiques Road Show, she brings in over £400,000 per anum.
Fiona's net worth recently came under interrogation during an episode of the BBC show. British YouTuber and former financial trader Gary Stevenson insinuated that people on the panel had plenty of money in savings, something Fiona was quick to dispute.
However, it's not her bank account that is off the table when it comes to conversation at dinner parties. In an interview with the Mail Online, Fiona revealed the one thing she refuses to discuss.
She said: "It is the belief of the BBC that one has to strive to be neutral when reporting the news. That is baked into me like words through a stick of rock. I have not expressed political opinions to my friends or my family for years."
Giving further insight, she went on: "When my children were growing up, I never did, in case they blurted out something innocently at school. It was like this omertà [vow of silence] that I imposed upon myself."
Although it appears surprising for someone as politically astute as Fiona to remain neutral, the broadcaster believes that to do so would be "an abuse of my position." Avoiding political chat isn't the only thing that Fiona struggles to avoid. As the first woman to present the News at Ten, she's used to telling viewers about horrendous and often heartbreaking news.
She said: "You need to tread a line between not getting in the way of the story and not being a robot." Recalling a moment when she watched the mother of Sarah Everard [who was abducted and murdered by a serving police officer], she says she would have "struggled" to report on it and would have needed to rehearse so her throat didn't catch.
