BBC Breakfast opened with some 'breaking news' on Monday (4 August), with Jon Kay and Luxmy Gopal bringing TV viewers all of the latest news and updates. Jon opened the BBC programme with an urgent weather update, revealing that Storm Floris is set to take hold of areas across the United Kingdom as the day goes on.
"Morning everybody. It's Monday, 4th August and Storm Floris is set to hit Scotland, northern England, North Wales and Northern Ireland today, with winds of up to 85 miles per hour forecast for higher ground and some coastal areas," Jon told TV viewers. Luxmy, filling in for Sally Nugent, added: "A Met Office yellow warning has just come into effect, as forecasters warn of unusually windy weather for this time of year."
Jon revealed that those residing in Scotland should prepare for severe weather, saying: "Meanwhile, an amber warning, meaning there's a danger to life, will also be in place for some parts of Scotland from 10 o'clock this morning."
Jon handed over briefly to BBC senior journalist Alice Key, with fellow reporter Mairead Smyth then taking over, as she reported live from Preston train station to give viewers a look into the impact the weather was having on rail travel.
However, it was Jamie Mcivor, BBC's Scotland correspondent, who had urgent warnings for BBC viewers as he shared the latest weather updates from the coastal town of Gourock.
"Well, as you can see, it's certainly wet and miserable at the moment. There has been a night of heavy rainfall in much of Scotland and some difficult driving conditions," Jamie said, as he stood outside in the pouring rain. "But, of course, it's the severe wind later which is going to cause the major disruption."
Sharing an insight into the disruption which is expected, Jamie added: "The amber weather warning, due to come into force at 10 o'clock this morning, covering much of Scotland from Central Belt up, Glasgow and Edinburgh, Tayside, the Northeast and Highland areas off the west coast.
"The big effect of the severe weather will be travel disruption, there will be no trains north of the Central Belt from 12pm onwards."
BBC viewers were left confused as to why Jamie was reporting live while standing outside in the pouring rain, with some claiming it was "pointless" for him to be outside in the storm.
On X, one TV fan said: " #bbcbreakfast are really over hyping the normal wet and windy day that Scotland is going to have today. Daft BBC presenter Jamie McIvor is pointlessly standing out in the rain."
A second agreed, saying: "The weather reporter might wants to go inside (health and safety and all that)," while a third concerned viewer said: "I will never understand why you send reporters out to somewhere that has a treat to life warning."
BBC Breakfast airs everyday from 6am on BBC One.
