Keir Starmer rules out U-turn on winter fuel payment cut for millions of pensionersAfter Health Secretary Wes Streeting admitted anger over the Winter Fuel Payment cuts hurt Labour in the local elections last week, . No10 said there would be no change in policy after the Guardian reported there could be a re-think of the £11,500 cut-off for the allowance.
The Winter Fuel Payment was brought back into discussion after Welsh First Minister Eluned Morgan used a speech on Tuesday to call on to reconsider the means-testing of winter fuel payments.
The Prime Minister's official spokesman said: "The government set out its position on means-testing winter fuel. It was a difficult decision but one the government had to take to repair our public finances and stabilise the economy and the government's priority is ensuring pensioners receive the financial support they deserve with millions set to see their state pension rise."

A mum-of-three has told us how she realised her marriage had become "stale" on holiday and her life changed after a chat with a hotel worker. Julia Clark, 53, from Lincoln, had been married to Peter, also 53, for 15 years and they had three children together – but a family holiday to in August 2016 took Julia’s life in a completely new direction.

Girlfriend of British Superbikes rider who died in Oulton Park crash suffers double tragedy
On Monday evening, our News team broke the heartbreaking story of an 11-bike collision at that sadly killed two people. This Wednesday, they also revealed that the partner of British Superbikes rider , who sadly died in the collision, also lost her previous boyfriend to a separate motorcycle crash nine years ago.
Tragedy struck the Cheshire circuit on Monday when one rider lost control at Turn One and was flung into the path of his fellow competitors. A pileup ensued, and as one bike caught fire, medics were quick on the scene.
Two riders lost their lives: , 21, and , 29. The race was eventually abandoned. Mr Jenner was taken to the circuit medical centre and given further resuscitation treatment, but died from a "catastrophic head injury", the organisers said. He became the 2024 British GP2 champion and was signed to Rapid Honda.
