Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford will meet tonight in one of the biggest fights in boxing history.
And the fight will be seen by millions after Netflix decided to continue their investment in boxing having previously shown Jake Paul's bizarre fight with Mike Tyson and Katie Taylor's trilogy bout with Amanda Serrano earlier this year. More than 108 million people tuned in for Tyson's comeback bout with Paul while six million watched Taylor defeat Serrano for a third time.
And in a boost for fans, the fight will not be shown on pay-per-view, meaning boxing aficionados can watch for FREE, assuming they are subscribed to Netflix. This follows Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh's announcement that his events will no longer require an additional payment. "The PPV model has damaged boxing, and we will no longer support it,’ said Alalshikh recently. "We are with the fight fans."
When it was announced the fight would be streaming on Netflix, Alalshikh said: “On September 13, Canelo and Crawford, two legends of boxing, will finally compete against each other in the fight of the century. Alongside Dana White and Sela, we will deliver something truly incredible in Las Vegas for fans around the world to enjoy through Netflix.”
UFC CEO White added: “Turki wants to make the biggest fights that the fans want to see in boxing and this is right up my alley. Are you kidding me that the first boxing fight I’m going to get to promote is Canelo vs. Crawford? It’s literally a once in a lifetime fight. Live on Saturday, September 13, streaming globally on Netflix, two of the GREATEST boxers in the sport will meet in a historic fight from Las Vegas.”

Alvarez will put his four super-middleweight world titles on the line against Crawford at the Allegiant Stadium in Sin City tonight, and said: "I’m super happy to be making history again and this time on a Riyadh Season Card that will be broadcast on Netflix. On September 13, I’m ready to show once again that I am the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world."
Crawford, meanwhile, is attempting to become the first man to be crowned the undisputed world champion of a third weight division and is skipping two categories to take on his Mexican rival. He said: “My perfect record speaks for itself. I am the best fighter in the world and no matter the opponent or weight class, I have always come out on top. On September 13, my hand will be raised once again as the world watches greatness."
