Coronation Street fans spotted a subtle but poignant detail on Monday night's episode. The world's longest running TV soap returned for its first instalment of the week, and viewers were able to catch up on the ups and downs of their favourite Weatherfield residents.
Those who tuned in will know that Carla Connor (Alison King) was set to propose to DS Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) for the second time, just weeks after it had all gone wrong. The no-nonsense factory boss tried to set everything out properly in the garden, which she and her significant other had recently bought, and decorated their outdoor area with balloons and bunting galore.
In the end, the marriage proposal once again went awry when their neighbour David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) lambasted them for using his recycling bin. When she was handed an old piece of paper containing the name Tia Wardley, Lisa threw a fit because she does not like Carla digging into what appears to be the secrets of her past.

When Lisa was introduced, viewers quickly learned that her first wife Becky, with whom she has daughter Betsy (Sydney Martin), had died in the line of duty. But Carla has been trying to find out more information in recent weeks, having been given the name Tia by Logan Radcliffe in prison.
Carla and Lisa have become a fan favourite for their romance in recent months after it all began in November last year. Known to legions of social media fans as Swarla, viewers took to X to make a connection between Monday's scenes between the pair and the goings on at number 11.
Harrowing scenes took place at the former residence of Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver), where her son Todd's relationship with Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) has taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks as he has started to control Todd and insult him over his body.
In the latest episode, Theo had been through a disastrous mediation meeting with his estranged wife Danielle (Natalie Anderson) and Noah Hedley (Richard Winsor). He later spent the evening drinking, and when Todd returned with a kebab, Theo took it off him and stuffed it in his mouth before storming out, claiming to have split up with him.

Viewers took to X to point out that the juxtaposition of dark and light scenes in the episode, which was directed by Vicky Thomas, was an 'outstanding' element of the whole thing.
One fan said: "Once again a deep thought for #Corrie but the use of colour for this episode and how it’s symbolic of two diametrically different stories has been outstanding. The lightness and warmth of 6 Coronation Street versus the darkness and bleakness of 11 Coronation Street."
Another fan agreed, as they said: "No I was actually thinking this too they definitely made Eileen's house look cold today, lighting plays a huge part in telling a story this was surely a deliberate choice!"
A third viewer replied saying: "Yes, put quite simply; bright and cheery tones for uplifting/happy scenes and dark and gloomy for depressing scenes!"
The same fan who pointed it out to begin with was so taken with the action that took place that they watched it again, and thinks that it is all a sign of what is to come. They said: "I did a rewatch of Todd and Theo’s story, and whether it was intended or not, the darkening of 11 Coronation Street is a subtle, yet fantastic way to foreshadow their upcoming storyline.
"It’s little things like this that make #Corrie shine!"
Some fans think that the characters in question could actually cross in one way or another. Towards the end of last week, viewers saw Theo ban Todd from speaking to vicar Billy Mayhew (Daniel Brocklebank) in upsetting scenes. Fans alsoknow that Billy's exit from the programme has been confirmed, but a flurry of fans rushed to X to predict that Lisa will actually turn out to be instrumental in Theo's downfall.
One fan wrote on X: "I cannot wait for for the day Lisa brings Theo down after everything that's going to happen with Todd", and another fan agreed as they wrote: "Every Corrie fan will literally scream yesssss when she does!"
A third said: "Cannot wait for the day that our Swainy arrests Theo for being an abusive piece of s***!! It’s coming and I am SAT!"
Coronation Street runs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1. Episodes can also be downloaded on ITVX.
