Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday urged the protesting teachers to end their protest and mentioned that the state government will file a review petition in the Supreme Court.
“The teachers should have faith in the administration. Let us do our job. If needed we will file the review petition. We have ensured your salary. So go back to school ending the protests. You people should not be worried about who are tainted and who all are untainted. It will be reviewed by the state government and the court. You all should be worried about your jobs and salaries. Some people are misleading you, please don’t fall in the trap. Let Group C and Group D people allow us to consult the lawyers,” said Mamata in an administrative review meeting in Midnapore.
The Chief Minister also stated that had she been in Kolkata she would have found a solution in just a minute.
Notably, a delegation of the protesting teachers met the SSC chairman on Tuesday evening and after coming out the delegation said that their protests will continue as they are not satisfied with the meeting.
“Our SSC building gherao will be continuing. We wanted to see the list of who are genuine candidates. We will not go back to school as we don’t know what will be our fate after December 31. We will not allow the SSC chairman and other staff to get back home but will see that they get their food and medicines,” said a sacked teacher Chinmoy Mondal.
Mondal also mentioned that the genuine candidates will not enter the school with tainted candidates and also that they will not leave the streets.
It can be recalled that The Supreme Court on April 3 scrapped the appointment of 25,752 Bengal government-appointed 2016-batch schoolteachers and non-teaching staff due to recruitment scam. Following an appeal by the state government, the apex court allowed the teachers to continue in service until fresh hiring.
Meanwhile, state education minister Bratya Basu addressing a press conference mentioned that no list will be published.
“The state government is by the side of the sacked teachers. Our Chief Minister has assured of all help. We have said that we will move consulting the law. The order of the Supreme Court didn’t ask us to publish the list of eligible teachers. If we don’t listen to the apex court’s order it can be contempt of court. I would urge the protesting teachers not to do anything that will go against the court,” added Basu.
