A native of Jaipur living in Dubai was also killed in the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22.
The deceased, Neeraj Udhwani (33), had travelled to Kashmir with his wife Ayushi, who called her brother-in-law in Jaipur after the incident and said, “Neeraj has been shot.”
Neeraj, a Chartered Accountant based in the UAE, was in India to attend a wedding in Shimla. He and his wife Ayushi, along with some friends from Dubai, were there for the occasion. After the wedding, Neeraj and Ayushi left for Pahalgam for a short holiday. They were scheduled to return to Dubai in a few days.
Neeraj's uncle, Dinesh Udhwani, said Ayushi was in the hotel room while Neeraj was outside at the time of the attack.
“Neeraj's wife called Kishore Udhwani (his elder brother) and said that Neeraj had been shot, and security forces had taken them to a safe location. The call shook the family, and Kishore, along with other family members, left for Delhi immediately,” the uncle said.
Neeraj's mother, Jyoti, expressed her grief and anger, saying, “The government should kill the terrorists on the spot in front of everyone. My son never even killed a mosquito, but he was killed so brutally. God will never forgive them. My pain will not end until these terrorists are eliminated.”
Neeraj married Ayushi in February 2023 at Bhanwar Singh Palace in Pushkar. The couple had no children. His elder brother, Kishore Udhwani, and his wife are income tax inspectors. Neeraj had last visited Jaipur during the Makar Sankranti holidays in January.
