Mumbai: A 35-year-old delivery boy, Azim Zaminul Sheikh, died in an accident in Andheri West after a garbage truck collided with his bike on May 28. The driver of the garbage truck, identified as Prakash Nanku Yadav, 40, has been arrested by the Oshiwara police. A case has been registered against him for allegedly causing death by reckless driving. He was later released on bail.
According to the FIR, the accident occurred at around 1 a.m. on Tuesday night, in front of Masjid Al Salam Chowk near Walawalkar Garden, Westernbound in Andheri West. A special police patrol team was in the area when they noticed a large crowd gathered at the spot.
Upon reaching the location and conducting an initial inspection, the police found that a scooter had been struck by a mini compactor garbage truck belonging to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation. The scooter driver lied on raid and sustain serious head injuries. The eyewitness said that the mini truck driver drove his vehicle over his head.
The injured rider was immediately rushed to Cooper Hospital by the police, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. During the investigation, the deceased was identified as Azim Sheikh, a resident of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar, located opposite Greenland High School in Goregaon West. He was employed as a delivery boy with a private company.
The Oshiwara police registered a case and arrested the driver, Prakash Nanku Yadav who resides at Goregaon West. Since the offence is bailable, he was subsequently released on bail.
