Nowadays, almost every house has an RO water purifier installed, but have you ever wondered whether the water you are drinking is really clean and healthy or not? Many times, the quality of water falls due to the filter or membrane in the RO machine getting damaged, and we do not even know it. Continuous consumption of such water can be harmful to your health. Therefore, it is very important to check the purity of water from time to time. The good thing is that for this, you do not need to get a lab test done, but you can yourself estimate the quality of water with some easy home remedies.

Check the water with a TDS meter.
The easiest and most reliable way to check the quality of water is a TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) meter. It is a small device, which, when put in water, tells the amount of minerals and salt dissolved in it. The ideal TDS level of RO water should be between 50 and 150 PPM. If TDS is very low, then there may be a lack of minerals in the water, and if it is high, then there are more impurities in the water. A TDS meter is easily available both online and offline, and it is very easy to use. Just turn on the device, put it in water, and see the reading.
Identify water purity by taste.
Sometimes the quality of water can also be identified by the eyes and taste. If the water is absolutely clear, without any color or odor, then it is a sign of good quality. On the other hand, if the water has a slight muddy color, odor, or strange taste, then this water is not drinkable. Especially if the water tastes like metal, then it can be a sign of rust in the pipe or tank. Also, if a white layer or more foam is seen in the water after boiling, then it is a sign of excess minerals or impurities.
Test by boiling and freezing
Another easy home method to check the quality of water is to boil and freeze it. When clean water is boiled, it should not have any kind of dirt, oily layer, or strange smell. On the other hand, when water is frozen in the freezer, it should be transparent and without bubbles. If the water looks cloudy after freezing or a white layer forms in it, then it is a sign of excess minerals and impurities. With these methods, you can estimate the purity of your RO water at home without spending much and can get the filter or membrane replaced if needed.
