Rekha’s private life has long intrigued the public and sparked endless speculation. Throughout her career, she has been romantically linked to numerous high-profile individuals in the entertainment world. However, the only officially acknowledged marriage in her life was with Mukesh Aggarwal, a businessman from Delhi, which took place in 1990.
Sadly, that union ended in heartbreak, as Aggarwal tragically passed away less than a year later. Since that painful chapter, Rekha has chosen to remain unattached, embracing a lifestyle defined by her independence and personal choices.
In a rare and heartfelt interview with Rediff, Rekha opened up about the topic of motherhood—something she has rarely discussed publicly. When asked whether she feels the absence of children in her life, the veteran actress admitted that she no longer does.
She explained that even if she were to meet someone ideal to have children with, it would conflict with her life’s direction. According to Rekha, being a mother is a role that demands complete commitment—something she believes would force her to set aside the goals and responsibilities she holds dear.
“I don’t feel the longing anymore,” she confessed. “Even if I were to find the perfect man to raise children with, it wouldn’t be fair to my values. I’m not someone who can dedicate myself solely to one person. If I had a child, my focus would shift entirely toward them, and I wouldn't be able to give time or energy to anything else.”
She elaborated further, saying, “And what about all the children and people across the world who I feel spiritually connected to? If I possess the privilege of being Rekha, then it’s my duty to be available to anyone who reaches out to me.”
In the same conversation, she also spoke candidly about love and companionship. Rekha acknowledged that if she were in a relationship, she would likely invest all her time and care into her partner. “I’m someone who gives everything in a relationship,” she revealed. “I’d make his bed, choose his clothes, oversee his meals, and even pack his lunch and deliver it myself. That’s how focused I am. But doing all that means I’d have to turn away from the larger world that looks up to me.”
Though she admitted her perspective might sound unrealistic, she clarified that she’s not dismissive of love altogether. “If I do meet someone who accepts that I come with a world of admirers, then perhaps I’ll reconsider,” she said.
Now 70, Rekha remains unmarried. Her legendary screen partnership—and rumored real-life connection—with Amitabh Bachchan continues to be a topic of fascination, especially due to their electric chemistry in classics like Silsila.
