The Prime Minister’s Office ( PMO) is likely to move from South Block to the newly built Executive Enclave-I next month, reported TOI, citing government sources. The relocation is expected in the second half of September.
According to the report, the Cabinet Secretariat will also shift from Rashtrapati Bhavan to the new complex, which could get a new name linked to the theme of ‘sewa’ (service). Earlier this month, the ministries of home affairs and personnel were moved to Kartavya Bhawan-3, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The move is part of the larger Central Vista revamp under which North Block and South Block — iconic British-era buildings that have housed the PMO and key ministries for nearly 80 years — will be converted into a public museum named Yuge Yugeen Bharat Sangrahalaya.
In his address to PMO officials after taking oath for a third term, Modi had said, “PMO should become an institution of service and the people’s PMO” and should act as a catalytic agent for the system.
A government source involved in the Central Vista planning told TOI that relocating these offices is also aimed at removing “traces of colonial mindset.”
