India's fourth-largest software services firm Wipro added a small number of 614 employees during the January to March quarter of fiscal year 2025, reversing headcount decline marginally from the previous quarter.

This follows a net decline in workforce for the previous quarter of 1,157 after adding employees in the first half of the fiscal year 2025.

For the full year, Wipro's employee count was higher by a meagre 708, taking the total workforce at the end of March this year at 233,346 from 234,054 at the end of March last year.

Wipro’s larger rival Tata Consultancy Services, also reversed its headcount decline to add 625 employees in the fourth quarter and 6,433 in the full year to end March headcount at 607,979.

The employee addition comes amid the ongoing revenue growth slump, which is accentuated due to the uncertainty in the market due to the tariffs imposed by the US acquisition. With the disruption due to artificial intelligence (AI), the IT industry is also witnessing a de-linearity in the proportion of revenue growth to headcount.

Attrition in the March quarter remained the same at 15% when compared with the previous quarter but worsened from 14.2% in the Q4 and full year of FY24.

On Wednesday, Wipro reported 6.4% on-quarter growth in net profit at Rs 3,570 crore for the fourth quarter of FY25 on a revenue growth of 0.8% to Rs 22,504 crore in the three months ended March 31, 2025.

For FY25, Wipro reported revenue of $10.8 billion, marking a 2.7% YoY decline. Its net profit grew 15.8% to close the fiscal year at $1.33 billion.

Srini Pallia, CEO and Managing Director, said, “Given the uncertainty in the environment, we expect our clients to take a more measured approach going forward, especially on two spend areas, large transformation programs and discretionary spend. With this in mind, and based on our current visibility, we are guiding for a sequential growth of minus 3.5% to minus 1.5% in constant currency terms.”
