New Delhi [India] April 20 (ANI): Rajasthan Royals spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule acknowledged that his team was in a good position to chase the target and could have chased the target with two overs to spare, but ultimately fell short against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Saturday.
Bahtule praised the batting performance of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, and Riyan Parag.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Sairaj Bahutule said, "Definitely, we had less than 20 runs. Maybe less than 10-15 runs. I think when we had a partnership going, we could have finished it in a couple of overs itself. I think we were set to chase that target. And the batters were, the way Jaiswal batted, the way Vaibhav gave a good opening stand, that was continuing with Riyan and Yashasvi. But these things happen in T20 format. We have to accept it and move on."
He also said that RR has been playing well, but some of the results have not swung their way. He credited Rahul Dravid for keeping the dugout calm and emphasised the importance of not panicking. Bahutule also acknowledged that losing by two runs and a super over is tough, but that's part of the game.
"To be honest, we have been playing good cricket here. It's just that the result has not gone away. In the dugout, there's a lot of calmness with Rahul being there...But unfortunately, you know, losing by two runs in this game and the previous game with the super over. Yes, it's been hard, but that's the way the game goes," he added.
A fantastic last over by Avesh Khan helped LSG defy some serious hitting by Yashasvi Jaiswal, Vaibhav Suryavanshi and stand-in skipper Riyan Parag as RR fell short by two runs at their home venue of Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Saturday.
Avesh took a three-wicket haul while defending nine runs in the final over. LSG won the match by 2 runs as it had posted 181 runs. Rajasthan were restricted to 178. Avesh took home the 'Player of the Match' award for his outstanding display of bowling.
In the current standings, RR is in eighth spot with two wins and six losses, whereas LSG is in fourth spot with five wins and three losses. (ANI)
